MARKET WATCH TIM TEICHGRAEBER PROVENCE IN COLUMBIA VALLEY Charles Bieler is one of the guys with his eyes set on the increasingly sophisticated American rosé opportunities. Bieler's family owned Chateau Routas in Provence, a terrific rosé producer, and Charles and his sister, Mira Bieler, steadily increased U.S. sales of the brand through the late 1990s and early 2000s, until the estate was sold in 2005. The Bieler family re-invested in a new rosé estate, Bieler Père et Fils in Côteaux d'Aix en Provence. You might also know Charles Bieler from such hits as Three Thieves (a partnership with Joel Gott and Roger Scommegna), Bandit Wines, and his relatively new Charles & Charles joint venture with Washington state vintner Charles Smith, which released its first rosé in 2008.
