INDUSTRY NEWS Legend to celebrate birthday with free concert at GIE+EXPO Charlie Daniels will celebrate a milestone birthday in grand style at 4th Street Live in downtown Louisville during GIE+EXPO 2011. Daniels is set to perform on Friday, Oct. 28, at 9 p.m. Concert admission is free. Daniels is a Grammy Award-winning country music and southern rock legend. He is most known for his No. 1 country hit, “The Devil Went Down to Georgia.” He was in- ducted into the Grand Ole Opry in 2008, so- lidifying his place in country music history. The Davisson Brothers will open for Daniels, taking the stage at 8 p.m. They are a Charlie Daniels country music group whose self-titled debut album charted on the Top Country Al- bums. Concert goers will recognize their country hit, “Foot Stompin.” GIE+EXPO is set for Thursday, Oct. 27, through Saturday, Oct. 29, at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville, Ky. The international trade show is sponsored by the Outdoor Power Equipment Institute (OPEI), Professional Landcare Network (PLANET), and the Professional Grounds Management Society (PGMS). Hardscape North America will be co-located on the show floor on the same dates. An early-bird registration fee of $10 is being offered until Sept. 14. After Sept. 14, pre-registration will be $25. Worldlawn buys Encore Worldlawn Power Equipment Inc. recently purchased the Encore Manufacturing fac- tory in Beatrice, Neb. This is an expansion of Worldlawn’s current U.S. lawnmower op- eration located in California. Worldlawn is now in the process of staffing the Beatrice plant and hopes to put many former employees of the factory back to work and add new talent in key posi- tions. Worldlawn President Hardy Shao comes to Beatrice from Worldlawn’s California operation. Mike Navojosky, national sales manager, knows the outdoor power equip- ment industry well, having worked with Toro before joining Worldlawn. Billy Harms, national service manager, and Devon McGee, engineer, were selected from the former Encore staff to join Worldlawn. That expertise comes from years of manufacturing and distributing com- mercial and residential riding and walk- behind mowers to Asia, Australia, Europe and the United States, where 10 estab- lished distributors are located. Innovative engineering that implements emerging technology has been cited as the stimulus of Worldlawn's nearly worldwide success. The Beatrice division is an investment in the U.S. market that merely starts with lawn mowers. Worldlawn plans to add inventive new outdoor power products.
