Also on the cover, the winner of the Fence Truck of the Year was chosen and highlighted. Another cover story discussed up- coming fence industry conventions and trade shows for 1987. • WFN contributing editor Herb Borner presented useful facts and for- mulas for those interested in exporting fence materials out of the country to be installed by others. A basic knowledge of weights and conversions will go a long way toward curbing any fear of exporting, Borner said. • WFN took an advance look at the 25th annual convention and trade show of the International Fence Industry As- sociation (IFIA), which was held Feb- ruary 4-7, 1987 in San Diego, California. • WFN contributing editor Jim Lucci looked into his crystal ball and speculated on what 1987 might hold for the fence business. Commercial Residential December 1991 Here are some articles and items that were being covered in the Decem- ber 1991 issue of World Fence News, 20 years ago this month. • The cover photo for December showed Butch Marsh, an installer for Oberg Mfg. & Fencing of Deerwood, Minn., working on a ladder in two feet of water, 30 feet into a swamp, during an extensive deer-proof fencing job at Crow Wing (Minn.) Airport. The job involved a total of 7,200 lineal feet of woven wire and plastic mesh fencing. The Federal Aviation Administration even required a li- censed pilot to be on the premises along with the fence crew to be sure they didn't hamper landings and take- offs. • The December issue presented an in-depth look at the events sur- rounding FENCETECH'92, the 30th annual convention and trade exhibit of the International Fence Industry Asso- ciation, which was held in Fort Worth, Texas that year. • The Western Wood Products As- sociation published a detailed outlook on the factors affecting the lumber in- dustry in the coming year. • WFN contributing editor Herb Borner explained how using a pre- pared estimate worksheet can help a fence estimator sharpen his bid and avoid missing things that might ad- versely affect the bid. Included was a separate estimator's worksheet that Herb used. • WFN contributing editor Jim Lucci peered into his economic and political crystal ball and tried to pre- dict what 1992 held for the fence in- dustry. A recovery in the residential real estate market could be a key to an im- provement in the fence business, both for new and existing properties, Lucci said.
