August 2015 | Overdrive | 51 Texas roundup A free concert, show trucks, a trucker singing competition, business seminars and health offerings are among the highlights of the Aug. 27-29 Great American Trucking Show in Dallas. Hundreds of exhibitors, including fleets, equipment makers and service providers, will fill the Kay Bailey Hutchi- son Convention Center that Thursday through Saturday. Friday, Aug. 28, will be a big day for live music at GATS. Award-winning country star John Anderson will perform at 6 that evening. Tickets will be available on a first-come first-served basis at the booth of TruckerPath, the concert's primary sponsor, as well as at the booths of other sponsors, the Professional Driver Agency and Red Eye Radio. Anderson had hits in the early 1980s such as "Swingin,' " which was named the Country Music Association's 1983 Song of the Year. He returned to prominence in the 1990s with the release of his al- bum, Seminole Wind, which had two songs reaching No. 1 on the country music charts. He's since released five other albums. Also on Aug. 28, three finalists in Overdrive-Red Eye Radio's Trucker Talent Search will compete live for first place in the GATS Theater at 3:30 p.m. In addition to performances by drivers Paul Marhoefer, Nate Moran and Don Whatley, there also will be a performance from the event's emcee, Tony Justice, a driver who's also an established country recording artist. The winner will perform Saturday morning, immediately before Overdrive's Texas roundup Dallas show offers lots in the way of entertainment, professionalism and health BY MATT COLE Ray Rodriguez and his 2015 Peterbilt 389 won Best of Show, Limited Mileage Combo at May's Dynaflex Pride & Polish event. He will compete for National Championship honors in that category. John Anderson's Aug. 28 concert will be free for GATS attendees. REGISTRATION AND PARKING Pre-registration for GATS is free online in advance of the show. On-site registrations will be $10. Pre-regis- tration and lodging information are available at truckshow.com. Free truck parking will be available at the Cotton Bowl's Fair Park, less than four miles from the show. Free shuttles to the convention center will be provided. The parking area will include food vendors, showers, portable restrooms, a weekend con- cert and a Sunday morning worship service. A shower trailer, sponsored by TA and Petro, will be open Thursday and Friday, and until noon Saturday. TA will provide two free souvenir towels and soap with each shower appointment. Showers will be free for Platinum UltraOne members, $3 for Standard UltraOne members and $8 for nonmembers.
