Colorado, notes: "Consensus decisions can be difficult. The process brings many views to the standard and you do not always end up with a clear direction while trying to make everyone happy." When asked what advice he has for those who are new to the standard development process, Hanna says, "Be patient." Hunter advises, "Be active and participate." The process makes sure all stake- holders are represented and everyone has their chance to participate, without one person's viewpoint dominating the discussion. It is rewarding to participate as a task group member because your time and expertise leads to a document that is nationally accredited as the word of the industry. Not to mention, it's fun. Every participant I've spoken to has learned something from their time in standard development, and it fosters a network with fellow professionals across the nation—and sometimes the globe. I hope you join me in working on the ANSI standard for water well pumping systems.
