Seven Trends and Opportunities Affecting Our Industry Tuesday, December 15 1:45–2:45 p.m. Change is part of nearly everything and every industry, and the water sys- tems industry is no different. This pres- entation will highlight seven megatrends truly changing our industry. As a water systems professional, you are probably keenly aware of these, but have never seen them all in one place. At the same time, each offers a business opportunity. This presentation will discuss each of these trends in detail, along with how to take advantage of them. Presenter: Mark Reeder, Franklin Electric DACUM Codes: DOL11 The Future of Connected Devices in the Water Well Industry. Tuesday, December 15 3–4 p.m. This is a basic overview of how con- nected devices and wireless technology can be used within your residential or commercial water system. Presenter: Brian Broga, Pentair DACUM Codes: DOL11 Water Supply Well Pump Instal- lations—Making Them Better Wednesday, December 16 2–3 p.m. An interactive session that will dis- cuss often overlooked details that make for a longer lasting and more useable pump installation. Items include pump installation depth, column sizing, pitless unit/adapters, venting, probe tubes, wire protection, splicing, flowing artesian, freeze protection, and safe installing practices that minimize risk to the user and damage to equipment. Presenter: Kriss Schneider, Schneider Water Services DACUM Codes: DOB2, DOB4, DOG11, DOI6, PIB8, PIC10, PIC5, PIC6, PIC7, PIC8, PIC9, PIE10, PIE11, PIE12, PIE13, PIE14, PIE15, PIE17, PIE3, PIE6, PIE7, PIE9, PIG3 Why Submersibles Fail: An Insider's Perspective Thursday, December 17 8–9 a.m. A submersible installation is an ideal method of delivering groundwater. It's efficient, out of sight, and highly reli- able. When there is an issue, a problem, or even a failure in a submersible instal- lation, it's most often the result of im- proper installation or asking the product to do something beyond its design point. This presentation will look at the topic from the perspective of someone who has spent more than 20 years on a technical service hotline and has dealt with thousands of calls involving sub- mersible installations. You will learn more about submersible issues and how to prevent problems long before they occur. Presenter: Rick Campbell, Franklin Electric DACUM Codes: PIC4, PIC5, PIE10, PIE11, PIE12, PIE13, PIE14, PIE15, PIE17, PIE18, PIE3, PIE9 Water Quality and Treatment Compromised Water Quality— Challenges and Solutions Tuesday, December 15 12:30–1:30 p.m. All water supplies, regardless of the source, contain contaminants. The kinds, concentrations, and intended use dictate the required treatment technolo- gies. This presentation will introduce the classes of waterborne contaminants, provide specific examples, and identify possible sources. It will differentiate between aesthetic and health-related contaminants and the impact of the changing regulatory environment. Presenter: Peter S. Cartwright, PE, Cartwright Consulting Co. DACUM Codes: DOF2, DOG10, DOG9, DOK8, PIA4, PIB9, PIF8, PIF9 Diagnosing Common Well Problems Wednesday, December 16 8:30–10 a.m. Increase your success in the field. Understand your daily well problems due to odors, corrosion, iron bacteria, coliform, and E. coli with simple proce- dures in the field and specific local lab tests. Determine if any of these prob- lems are contained in the well (treat- able) or are coming as a continuing source from the aquifer due to failures of grout or well casing (untreatable successfully). Presenter: David T. Hanson, Design Water Technologies DACUM Codes: DOA3, DOF1, DOF2, DOF4, DOF5, DOF6, PIA3, PIA5, PIA6, PIB3, PIC1, PIC3, PIC4, PIC9, PIF1, PIF8, PIF9 The Oxidation Reaction: Friend or Foe to the Groundwater Industry? Tuesday, December 15 9:15–10:15 a.m. Learn the general description of the oxidation reaction, outline where and how the reaction occurs, what creates the reaction, and what positive or nega- tive effects it has on groundwater sys- tems. The workshop will review all of the current oxidative chemicals used in the groundwater field, include some po- tential alternates, and discuss the appli- cation, features, and benefits of each. Presenter: Roger Miller, Water Systems Engineering Inc. DACUM Codes: DOF2, DOF5, DOG10, DOG2, DOG9, PIE20 Well Rehabilitation and Mainte- nance—How to Diagnose the Problem and Select the Proper Chemical Solution Wednesday, December 16 2–3 p.m. This workshop will focus on well re- habilitation and maintenance such as how to properly diagnose the problem and select the right chemical and me- chanical methods. It will cover the im- portance of preventive maintenance and why the industry should be promoting it. And finally, it will discuss some gen- eral misinformation about chlorinating water wells. Presenter: Kevin McGinnis, Cotey Chemical Corp. DACUM Codes: DOA1, DOF1, DOF2, DOF5, DOF6, DOG10, DOG2, DOG3, DOG4, PIF6, PIF7, PIF8, PIF9 44 October 2015 WWJ waterwelljournal.com EXPO from page 42
