Here's a look at each: POLARIS RZR 900 AND 1000 Polaris Industries jointly announced with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commis- sion that the company is voluntarily recalling certain RZR 900 and 1000 off-road vehicles manufactured since model year 2013 due to reports of thermal-related incidents, including fires. Detailed information about the recall is available at www.polaris.com/rzr-recall. The recall affects about 133,000 units. Polaris conducted a thorough investigation to pinpoint the root causes and put forward a comprehensive solution to address them. "One of our foremost guiding principles is Safety and Ethics Always," said Scott W. Wine, chairman and CEO, Polaris. "We know that the foundation of a good ride is a safe ride, and we have been proactive, aggressive and thor- ough in putting forth a plan to get our vehicles repaired and give us — and our customers — confidence in the safety of our RZR vehicles." All affected vehicle owners will be asked to contact a dealer to schedule a complimen- tary service appointment, which should take approximately one hour. Polaris is working quickly to source the necessary parts — and is allocating parts daily to dealers as they become available. Dealers will schedule appointments subject to parts availability. "We are working day and night to inform our customers and dealers and to obtain the parts needed for the repairs we identified in our comprehensive analysis," said Wine. "We apologize for the inconvenience to our cus- tomers as we work to ensure all the systemic thermal risks we identified are eliminated from our vehicles." Polaris has already begun implementation of its Corrective Action Plan and has made manufacturing updates in new-production vehicles. Polaris also plans to include a warn- ing on new-production vehicles instructing riders not to carry fuel and other flammable liquids in their vehicles, and cautions against carrying flammable liquids in previously pro- duced models. The RZR XP Turbo and RZR 570 units are not included in this recall. YAMAHA YXZ1000R Yamaha Motor Corporation USA has issued a recall affecting about 7,000 units. It was found that water can get into the throttle cable, and if it freezes during cold weather, the ice can prevent the throttle from return- ing to idle. This can cause the rider to lose control, heightening the risk of crash and injury hazards. This recall involves model year 2016 YXZ1000R and YXZ1000R SE side-by-sides sold in four colors: orange and black, blue and white, silver and red, and yellow and white. The model name (YXZ) and "1000" is displayed in a graphic on both the left and right side of the vehicle. The vehicle iden- tification number is stamped on the frame near the driver's side rear wheel. The letter G in the 10th position of the VIN number indicates that the unit was made in the 2016 model year. Owners should immediately stop using the recalled utility vehicles and contact their local Yamaha dealer to schedule a free repair. Yamaha is also contacting all regis- tered owners directly. CUB CADET CHALLENGER Cub Cadet issued a recall on approximately 1,300 Challenger off-road utility vehicles, when it was found that the parking brake cable can fail, posing a crash hazard. This recall involves model year 2015 Cub Cadet Challenger CX500 and Challenger CX700 four-wheel drive off-road utility vehi- cles. The recalled vehicles have two bucket seats, roll bars, a canopy, a two-piece wind- shield, a 35.5-inch by 44-inch cargo bed and a winch. The vehicles were sold in the colors camouflage and yellow. Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the recalled vehicles and contact a Cub Cadet dealer to schedule an appointment for a free repair. Cub Cadet is contacting owners of the recalled utility vehicles directly. PSB UTV recalls from Polaris, Yamaha, Cub Cadet Polaris has recalled some RZRs due to a fire risk. About 7,000 YXZ1000R models have been recalled. Cub Cadet has recalled its Challenger CX500 and Challenger CX700 UTVs.
