C ai l since 1912 ST. CECELIA COURT 955 OF MADISON, WISCONSIN CELEBRATES 100 YEARS St. Cecelia Court 955 was organized on June 19, 1912 when a group of St. James ladies recognized the need of a fraternal Society. In those 100 years, there were 20 past presidents! The fi rst Chief Ranger was Frances Meyers. There were 28 charter members. The junior court was organized in 1936 with 25 members. It was led by Katherine Schmelzer and Catherine Grosse. The junior court has held as much as 200 members! As they grew up they were welcomed into the adult court. Monthly meetings are held the third Tuesday of every month. Each year Court 955 has a member anniversary recognition luncheon. This year they had members celebrating their 25th, 50th, 60th, and 70th anniversaries! St. Cecelia has always been active in their parish and community. In September, members collected money after Masses at St. James Church for the Alzheimer's and Dementia Alliance of Wisconsin. Every autumn, Society members help make pfefferneuse cookies at St. James for the St. James Fall Festival. Last year 3,263 bags of cookies were made earning close to $15,000 for the church and school! The St. Cecelia Court 955 asked Edgewood High School pupils to help on their annual Community Service Day. St. James School children, parents, teachers, parishioners, and non-parishioners also helped in this 10-week project. St. Cecelia's Court 955 also donates personal items to the local food pantries in Madison each March and November. These pantries have expressed their thanks and appreciation in receiving these items. A Mass of celebration for 100 years of St. Cecelia Court 955 took place on June 12, 2012 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, at St. James Church site, while also hosting the Madison Diocesan Association Meeting.
