AGGREGATES MANAGER / December 2016
A
ccording to the U.S. Geo-
logical Survey, aggregates
production in 2015 topped
more than 2.48 billion short
tons. That's a lot of heavy material
moved on an annual basis. All machines
on an aggregate site work hard, but
haul trucks take a real pounding.
Nowhere is the old adage about "an
ounce of prevention" more true than
with rigid trucks: proper prevention is
the number one maintenance issue.
Performing preventive maintenance pro-
vides a signifi cant return in production,
lowers operating costs, and raises resale
value. It is undoubtedly the best mainte-
nance "bang for your buck."
The importance of consistent daily
checks cannot be overstated. One per-
son should own and clearly understand
their responsibility for daily checks.
Formal checklists are a good way to
ensure daily assessments are completed
properly.
When it comes to rigid frame truck maintenance, an ounce
of prevention can truly be worth a ton of cure.
