Question
How do I know if I am using a
certified ELD or not?
Answer
e FMCSA has placed a list of
companies that have self-certified
their device or devices as compliant.
ere are, at the time of writing
this, 15 devices on that list from 13
different companies (two companies
have multiple devices registered).
Again, this is a self-registration.
No company will be vetted by the
FMCSA unless they have a cause to
do so. is would occur if there is
a complaint lodged to the FMCSA
against the company/device. To see

Question
What will happen if I do not have
my ELD by the December 18,
2017 deadline?
Answer
is answer has yet to be fully
determined. e prevailing
thoughts are that they will either
shut the driver down until they
receive an ELD or give them a 30
day window to receive a device.
Another thought is possibly giving
a 30 day window but attaching
a fine to warning. At this point,
best guesses are all we have. More
to come the closer we move to
that deadline.
NO COMPANY WILL BE
VETTED BY THE FMCSA
UNLESS THEY HAVE A
CAUSE TO DO SO. THIS
WOULD OCCUR IF THERE IS
A COMPLAINT LODGED TO
THE FMCSA AGAINST THE
COMPANY/DEVICE."
