MAILBAG H ere at Truckstop.com, we receive a great deal of questions surrounding our electronic logging solution and automatic onboard recording device. We also get questions that surround the Electronic Logging Device Mandate and general hours of service as well. Because of the questions that surround the mandate and hours of service, we have this feature in our publication: ELD/HOS Mailbag. e following questions have been fielded through our mailbag which can be reached at Hos.Eld.Mailbag@truckstop.com. We will pick four to five questions each edition and our Regulatory Analyst Jeremy Feucht will answer the questions here. Here are our questions for this edition! Question Part of the ELD exemptions are those who drive long haul (more than 100 or 150 air miles) less than eight days in a rolling 30 day period. How are their records going to be tracked? Answer ose who drive long haul eight days or less in a rolling 30 day period will be allowed to use paper logs. In order to prove that they are actually driving long haul less than those eight days in a rolling 30 day period, they will need to keep records of their time cards and other supporting documents in cab for 30 days. is will be the only way to prove to an enforcement official that you are truly exempt from the mandate. Question Can ELDs be used to track IFTA? Answer is question really depends on the jurisdiction (state). ere are some jurisdictions out there that do not require daily trip logs for IFTA if a GPS unit is attached to the truck. Others require the daily trip log be filled out on paper. Check with your jurisdiction to see what they require. Question Has there been any movement on the 34 hour restart aer both the House and Senate subcommittees passed bills to the floor for debate? Answer Sadly, no. In order to avoid a government shutdown, both branches of Congress scratched their verbiage that sought to clarify the ruling.to https://3pdp.fmcsa.dot. gov/ELD/ELDList.aspx ELDs and HOS Q&A Questions about ELDs and HOS?
