This is a 27 hole championship course highlighted by giant cottonwood trees, ponds with fountains, the Highwood River and breathtaking views of the Rocky Mountains. Highwood Golf and Country Club has retained its designation as a "Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary" by the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary System (ACSS), the educational division of Audubon International. Highwood Golf and Country Club was designated as a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary in 2002 and is one of 535 courses in the world to receive the honour. Known as the "Hidden Gem of the South," it's carved out of the Pot Hole Creek Valley in 1925, they have maintained a philosophy of not adding any man- made water hazards to the natural layout. The topography of the course ranges from level to undulating, and uneven ball lies are common. (See story on page 32). And every person who has played Taber Golf Club will tell you, with the tree-lined fairways and some lengthy par fours, the challenge has been met.
