100 british columbia The Okanagan Valley has long been noted as an outstanding vacation destination especially for golfers. The number of tourists who choose to tee it up here has always been a reflection of the sheer number of great golf resorts in the region (not to mention the unbeatable weather). The Canoe Creek Golf Course in Salmon Arm offers a traditional look with a modern approach. More than 7,000 yards of rolling fields, grass-faced bunkers, immaculate greens and striking water features combine to make up a course reminiscent of those in the British Isles. The Dave Barr-design allows you to hit driver off the tee in some situations, while a more conservative club selection may be required in others. The golf course was built in 1991 through a thick stand THOMPSON - OKANAGAN of pines creating a world of its own as each hole was played. Now that the majority of trees are gone due to a pine beetle infestation, golfers are treated to open rolling terrain and fantastic views at every turn. After 1:00 pm everyday they have dropped their green fees to $30 and power carts are $20 (taxes included). There are some changes to the restaurant this year. Eaglepoint has installed new tiles in the kitchen, and have also upgraded some of the appliances. In the dining area they have created a lounge endorsed area, and added two more televisions. At par 57, only three of Hillview's fairways rate a par four, but this does not mean golfers will have an easy time here for this is no pitch and putt. Eight lakes (connected by a wandering creek) plus several sand traps are in play over the course's 3,375 yards, making this a target golf course where accuracy is paramount. Four of Hillview's par 3's measure in at 190 yards or over, including Hillview's finishing hole which is 225 yards long. Here, the most challenging hole, the course's creek runs immediately in front of the green, and two of the lakes lie off the green's right side. Visit www. hillviewgolf.ca or call 250-549-4653.
