WINE COMPETITIONS Scene at: 2012 NextGen Wine Competition Fourth annual competition pinpoints Millennials' wine preferences he results are in for the NextGen Wine Competition for Millennial Wine Drinkers, held June 5-6, 2012, at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds in Santa Rosa, Calif. The 4th annual competition, orga- nized by Vineyard & Winery Management, is designed to highlight the wine-drinking preferences of Millennial adults aged 21-35. The all-Millennial judging crew included high-profile industry professionals such as 27-year-old Jessica Altieri, founder and CEO of WineChannelTV, and Alan Kropf, editor- in-chief of the Millennial-focused fine bever- age magazine, Mutineer. From a field of 750 entries, judges awarded a total of 17 Double Gold, 63 Gold, 253 Silver and 249 Bronze medals. Best of Show honors went to the Lago di Merlo Vineyards and Winery 2009 Sangiovese, from the Lago di Merlo Vineyard in the Dry Creek Valley AVA. "The results from our lineup of Millennial judges mirror very closely what is trending in the marketplace today," said Bill Traver- so, director of wine competitions for Vine- yard & Winery Management. "For example, moscato is an extremely hot category with younger wine drinkers, and moscato wines took Best of Show awards for both the white and sparkling wine categories." 2012 For complete results, visit www.vwm-online.com/nextgen.
