November 1992 Here are some articles and items that were being covered in the Novem- ber 1992 edition of World Fence News, 20 years ago this month. • The cover photo for November was of a lonely barbed wire fence that stretched into the horizon in the Cali- fornia desert. The photo was taken by Through the Years with World Fence News Edward Allen of Hercules, California. The cover story dealt with the ed- ucational program planned for the up- coming FENCETECH'93 convention that would emphasize management and salesmanship. Also, a notice reminded readers that the fence truck of the year contest for 1992 was coming to a close. • Lots of people liked to play prac- tical jokes on World Fence News con- tributing editor Jim Hart (now deceased), but one anonymous police tip about a loose wheelbarrow on the Interstate landed Jim in a web of suspicion. • WFN contributing editor Jim Lucci wanted readers to put their best foot forward by projecting the proper image and attitude that would impress customers and prospective customers. • Chuck Lee noted that even though many gate operator systems share some of the same characteristics, each has its own personality that in- stallers can become familiar with only through experience. • Electric fencing was being used to control a variety of pests and pred- ators, but different types of animals re- quired different designs of fences. • Lumbermen attending the annual convention of the Western Wood Prod- Is your business or association positioned for the changing economy?
