58 • NOVEMBER 2012 • WORLD FENCE NEWS Delta Fence & Construction uses QR codes to expand information availability continued from page 42 The concept impressed recent vis- itors who were able to scan the QR code and listen to specific information about the different fence styles on dis- play, Windberg said. "You will notice that the chain link fabric on this section is tied to the frame with self-locking fabric bands," a voice on the cell phone says. "Nor- mally, chain link is attached with hook ties. You can see one hook tie on the fence post in front of you to show the difference." How cool is that? Delta Fence & Construction co- owner Ron Chouinard said it's like having a salesperson standing there describing the section of fence they are interested in. Each of the audio files last only 30 seconds to one minute but provides more information than is available on the display sign. "It's also more flexible," Chouinard said. "On some products we don't list the color options on the product signs because they often change. We can put the colors in the audio file because it can be easily up- dated to reflect the changes." Some of the audio files provide specific information such as the spac- ing between pickets or the appearance of the texture. Although not every visitor to the outdoor showroom has a smart phone that can read the QR code (although the number of smart phones in use is exploding), Chouinard said it is still important to offer the option. "It is a great way to enhance a vis- itor's experience as they research the different styles of fence available," he said. The audio also encourages them to inquire at the office if they have other questions. Chouinard said they feel more comfortable with the company and are more likely to seek out a salesperson after listening to the online voice. Start planning now for FENCETECH 2013 The American Fence Association At Western Tube & Conduit customer satisfaction and quality are the first order of business. Our Fencepost and Fencerail production is ISO-9001:2008 certified - and our products are manufactured to meet all the applicable state, federal, industrial and regulatory specifications and requirements. While we regularly stock standardized products and sizes, we are happy to provide custom dimensions as well. All our Fence products are galvanized with high purity zinc. We use high frequency welding (ERW) to turn the highest quality strip steel into tubing, and then a continuous hot-galvanizing process to zinc-coat the products smoothly and evenly. A zinc-rich interior organic coating, a chromate conversion coating, and a clear exterior organic coating provide the complete finish package that gives them superior protection against the elements and long life as a result. Gal-Z serves customers looking for shaped Fence tubing as well as corrosion-protected mechanical tubing. It can be purchased in squares and in rectangles, and it provides excellent environmental durability while also fulfilling the need for strength and weldability. (AFA) has announced that FENCETECH 2013 – the 51st edition of the industry-wide trade show and education event – will be held in con- junction with Fence Industry Week. AFA said that the expansion re- flects the association's growing com- mitment to industry training and education and will offer attendees a "one stop shop" for the association's new Certified Installer (CI) training, Sales Training School, Deck and Rail- ing University Boot Camp, and AFA's new Access Control Systems Design course. Professionally-led access control seminars, training seminars on CPR and forklift certification (as offered at FIS) are included in the proposed schedule. FENCETECH '13 will be held at the George R. Brown Convention Cen- ter in downtown Houston, February 27 – March 1. A number of these semi- nars and education opportunities will be a part of the FENCETECH educa- tion program. Visit www.FENCETECH.com for show updates.
