Industry Beat IN THE NEWS The Canadian Chamber of Commerce newly released report on Canadian competitiveness draws attention to the skilled labor gap that will likely impact the nation's ability to build 21st century infrastructure, improve the tax system, and make regulations work, if left unaddressed. According to the report, Canada will face a skilled labor shortfall of nearly 2.3 million by 2021. Infor recently announced it will dedi- cate 200 staff to the Infor Equipment product set at the company's Stock- holm innovation center. In addition, the company has created a dedicated Infor CAT Dealer Advisory Council committed to the support, develop- ment and use of an industry-specific template that leverages the collective experience and knowledge of all members to create competitive edge. The company also announced a cloud- based offering of its suite of applica- tions for the equipment industry. Deploying Infor applications in the cloud will help equipment companies modernize their technology, reduce IT infrastructure, speed deployment, and create a lower total cost of ownership. Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. and Cummins Inc. have announced a 50/50 joint venture partnership to manufacture midrange engines extending from 150 hp to 300 hp output for application in a wide range of Hyundai construction and industrial equipment. Cummins Inc. received certification for its ISX15 engine from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), meeting both the EPA 2013 regulations and the new greenhouse gas and fuel-efficiency rules that will take effect in 2014. Cummins 2014 greenhouse gas certification is the first engine certificate issued by the EPA. Cummins Inc. was among a select number of companies on this year's InformationWeek 500, an annual listing of the nation's most innovative users of business technology. LiuGong and ZF-Group launched another joint venture called ZF Liuzhou Axle Co. Ltd. The new joint venture will focus on developing and producing wheel loader axles that are specially tailored for the requirements of the Chinese market. Former Caterpillar Inc. Chairman and CEO Glen Barton was inducted into the National Mining Hall of Fame.
