TL1303-proof 2/13/13 1:13 PM Page 1 MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT NOTICE TO WCTA MEMBERS BY TAB BUCKNER PRESIDENT'S REPORT IMAGE CREDIT RAIN COMMUNICATION FEB-MAR President's Report - For February / March, 2013 As the WCTA celebrates 50 years as one of the premier non-profit associations in Canada for individuals who manage turf, it continues to invest in Research, Education and Discussion. Currently for 2013, your Board is working on new opportunities and activies for the membership to participate in. Your association is only as strong as the membership. On behalf of the WCTA Board of Directors and the Conference Committee, I strongly encourage you to attend the WCTA's 50th Annual TAB BUCKNER Conference and Trade Show in Penticton, B.C. The Conference is going to be kicked off with our President's Reception which will include the Opening Ceremony and Awards Presentation on Sunday evening at the Lakeside Hotel. This is a great event to attend to socialize and network with other members. Your Conference Committee has been able to secure great speakers in all four Conference Tracks (Golf, Sportfields, Mechanics and Horticulture) which translates into 30 Currently for 2013, your Board hours of seminars being is working on new offered. opportunities and The Trade Show is currently 95% sold out. The Trade Show provides participate in. excellent opportunities for BCGSA NEWS BY DAVIN MARR BCGSA REPORT SPRING 2013 As we approach spring and the start of another golf season, I can't help but wonder what will be in store for the golf industry in 2013. Excellent collaborative efforts were continued for the BCGSA in 2012 that we aspire to continue long into the future. Inter-association relationships with the WCTA, CGSA, and AGA-BC were top priority in sharing duties to strengthen delivery of services and advocating on behalf of the business of golf in BC. We continue to encourage members to promote themselves, and our profession, to local MP's, MLA's and the general public. It is our collective goal I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all of the new and continual suppliers who sponsored our events in 2012 and have committed to events in 2013. 06 WESTERN CANADA TURFGRASS ASSOCIATION Annual General Meeting Date Tuesday, March 5, 2013 Time: 11:30am – 12:30pm Place: Penticton Trade and Convention Centre networking with both WCTA commercial members and industry vendors. Be sure to spend time on the Trade Show floor; there you will be able to meet with vendors and find out about products, equipment and services that can make your job a little easier. By attending the WCTA 50th to improve awareness of the benefits of golf courses in our local communities along with the professionalism of our turfgrass managers and our environmental stewardship. As well as promoting our professionals and our industry, the BCGSA tasks itself with providing a variety of networking and educational opportunities to our members and colleagues. These events would not be as successful if it were not for our industry support, so I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all of the new and continual suppliers who sponsored our events in 2012 and have committed to events in 2013. The Conference Social and Dave Creamer Memorial Hockey Game is about to showcase for its second occurrence and we have several new supporters on board, along with the Kwantlen University Turf Club, to compliment its success. On the topic of networking opportunities, the Interior Chapter will be hosting the BCGSA Exchange Tournament this summer at Sun Peaks Resort on August 11th and 12th. Please watch your e-Newsletter, the Dogwood, and the Turf Line News for future updates. This is always a fun and relaxing event in any hosted region and is a great opportunity to slip away for a couple of days to network with colleagues and recharge your batteries before heading into the fall wind down of your respective seasons. The BCGSA has partnered Conference and Trade Show the Board and the Conference Committee hope that it gives you the opportunity to recharge yourself and your career for the up and coming 2013 growing season. Regards Tab Buckner, WCTA President with the WCTA to provide a golf focused pre-con speaker at the 2013 conference in Penticton and will be providing a speaker for the Exchange Tournament at Sun Peaks in August as well. BCGSA PRESIDENT The BCGSA AGM will DAVIN MARR take place on March 4th during the WCTA conference and I encourage all BCGSA members to attend as we will be discussing the Budget and subsequently the future direction of the BCGSA. We will also be acknowledging those who have made exceptional efforts for our profession as well as those who are students of the profession and will contribute in the future. In closing, I will be ending my term as BCGSA President at the AGM and would like to thank the board members as well as the entire membership for their support over the past 2 years.
