Employer health care mandate delayed
The requirement that employers with
more than 50 full-time employees
provide health insurance coverage
or an option to its employees – as
required by the Affordable Care
Act – has been pushed back to 2015,
the U.S. Department of Treasury
announced.
That portion of the law was set to
take effect next year, and employers
who did not offer insurance
would have faced stiff fines.
Mark Mazur, assistant
secretary for tax policy at the
Treasury Department, said
the delay would allow the
administration to "simplify the
new reporting requirements"
and give businesses and others
more time to adapt to the
changes.
There have been concerns
since the law's passage in
2010 that employers would
attempt to navigate around
the law by changing employee
hours or cutting workers. The
administration now has an
extra year to deal with issues
like this.

THE U.S. HOUSE of
Representatives passed a
bill introduced by Wisconsin
Republicans Tom Petri and Reid
Ribble to ensure that overweight
trucks currently using Highway
41 in the state can continue
to operate on it once the road
becomes an interstate.
AN ANTI-TOLLING bill, signed
into law by North Carolina Gov.
Pat McCrory, would prohibit tolling
existing interstate lanes. If the
state adds tolling to an existing
interstate, it must maintain the
same number of general nontoll
lanes on the affected segment that
were available before the tolls.
THE KENWORTH T680 with
a 52-inch sleeper, announced
in March, is available for order.
The company said the truck is
well-suited for regional hauling
applications, including tank, bulk,
flatbed, heavy-haul and lowboy.
