WORLD FENCE NEWS • FEBRUARY 2014 • 35 THE HUMAN LINK by Jim Lucci Management Motivational Associates Increase your company's local exposure and have fun doing it! This month I have been asked to present some ideas on how fence companies can increase their local exposure, and even have some fun doing it. Well, here are some thoughts that come to mind: Some years ago, I was talking to a fence contractor who was quite a sports fan, particularly of the local professional hockey team. He found his way to several home games during the course of the year, and one evening, while attending a game, he noticed the ads that were posted around the rink. He decided to inquire about the availability of putting an ad in one of the spots when a space became available. He filled out an application and was notified that a spot was opening up for the following season. He bought that spot, and every time a play was at that particular end of the ice, everyone saw it and of course this increased his company's exposure. But just as important was the fact that it gave him a great deal of pleasure to see it there, and greatly added to his enjoyment of the games! You can achieve a similar result by sponsoring a Little League or other sports team and perhaps taking out an ad at one of their outfield walls, if that opportunity exists. Another source of local exposure might be to get involved with a local charity fundraising event. There are so many possibilities on the local level to become a supporter and doing some major good. You can start by determining some causes that you especially believe in and seek them out. Once having done that, depending on what they are, there often are choices of just how you would be able to get involved. Just pick something and do it. Another area might be a charity golf tournament. This venue rates very high in my book with opportunities to get involved. First, there are 18 holes on a golf course. This offers 18 possibilities for sponsoring a hole! There are numerous activities that present themselves such as breakfast, lunch, and certainly the awards dinner that follows the day's activity on the golf course where the event in question is always looking for sponsorships of all kinds to cover the functions as well as the prizes and trophies to be awarded. There is also the dinner itself. Perhaps you choose to have a table of ten for dinner. Oh yeah, the hole-in-one contest needs a sponsor, too! Oh, and if you play in a tournament or any company personnel play, this makes everyone in the company even more charity oriented. And who knows?
