Wrong place at the wrong time Editor's note: It has been a long while since we have seen a report such as the one below, thank goodness! But Ray Statz of Qual Line Fence in Waunakee, Wisconsin sent this in. It appeared in the news and sports web site madison.com. The incident occurred Dec. 11, 2013. A car passenger impaled by a fence pipe (a length of top rail) had to have the pipe cut from the seat back so he could be removed from the car and taken to a hospital, according to police officers in Madison, Wisconsin, where the incident occurred. Madison Fire Department crews responded to the scene, discovering the 20-year-old victim was impaled by a two-inch diameter metal pipe that went through his body and into the seat back. "The seven-foot piece of pipe entered the patient just below his left arm pit and exited through his back, the pipe penetrating the front seat back," said MFD spokeswoman Lori Wirth in a news release. The patient was conscious and answering questions, she added. The front part of the pipe was cut to within four inches of the victim's chest, and the back part of the pipe was cut close to the seat back. "The right side of the car also was cut away to allow better access," Wirth said. "The patient was gently repositioned to allow the pipe to be removed from the seat back and the patient was removed form the car." The extrication took about 25 minutes. "He was transported to UW Hospital with a section of pipe still in his body," Wirth said. "Fire department personnel and equipment went to the hospital in case further cutting of the pipe was needed." No assistance was needed in the emergency room and the patient went to surgery to get the rest of the pipe taken out, Wirth said. Police said the driver, a Madison man, was driving at a high rate of speed and left the road, going through a chain link fence. "As the car plowed through the fence, the upper rail penetrated the windshield and speared the male passenger," Wirth said. The driver was tentatively charged with reckless driving causing great bodily harm. "Speed and road conditions appear to be factors in the crash," said Police Sgt. Rahim Rahaman. A guy is sitting with his girlfriend, drinking beer, and says, "You make my life complete. I couldn't live without you. I love you." The girl asks, "Is that you or the beer talking?" The guy replies, "It's me. Talking to the beer." 69 US Patent No: 8,266,771 B2 KDT Power Twist Tie "Affixing the fence fabric to a fence post is an important and repetitive step in most fence installations.
