This issue included coverage from the convention. The lead cover article talked about the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission issuing pool fencing safety guidelines. • It was fencers, not saints, who marched into New Orleans in January for the 27th annual IFIA convention and trade show. • Contributing editor Jim Lucci told why the busiest people usually seem to get the most work done. • Contributing editor Herb Borner detailed the fine art of fence estimating, in a presentation from the FENCETECH convention. February 1994 Here are some articles and items that were being covered in the February 1994 edition of World Fence News, 20 years ago this month. • Future Fence Co. owner Kenneth Hollowell was named one of the top business people under the age of 40 in the Detroit area. But Hollowell said that the success of his company was due to team effort, not individual effort. • Owners of family businesses must be sure that the management of the company is composed of professional, qualified people, which does not necessarily mean family members, said one succession planning expert. • An access control consultant said that numerous opportunities exist for smart fence people to tap into the gate operator and access control market. He presented some imaginative sales techniques and approaches. • Every now and then, you might be asked to design and/or install a gate that must swing as much as 270 degrees. Veteran fence man Herb Borner gave some tips on how to accommodate these requests. • There are so many factors that go into building a good electrified fence that it took two articles to cover the subject.
