The rule would require all truck drivers who currently must keep re- cords of duty status to use an electronic logging device, formerly known as an electronic onboard recorder. After the comment period ends, the agency will begin work on a final rule, which likely will be published later this year. The effective date of the rule will be two years after publication, meaning the ELD mandate could go into effect as soon as late 2016.
