MOST BEAUTIFUL Trucking never looked so good Overdrive's One of these 10 drivers will win a trip to The Great American Trucking Show THE TOP 10 (in alphabetical order) Patty Adams Hometown: Spanaway, Wash. Occupation: Company driver, Castan Inc. Years trucking: 30 Hauls: Containers in and out of Seattle-Tacoma ports "A beautiful person is their heart, how they feel about others, and is in the eye of the beholder. I think all the women in trucking are beautiful." Adams' daughter, Kylene Willis, said her mother required three foot surgeries when she was injured on the job in 1998. During the third, "two blood clots went to her lungs, and she was given a 3 percent chance to live through the night." Adams lived, but the doctors said she'd never drive again. "She overcame that also," Willis says. "She is still driving every day." Ingrid Brown Hometown: Boone, N.C. Occupation: Company driver, Randall Miller Years trucking: 34 Hauls: Reefer, produce "Many say beauty is only skin deep or it's in the eye of the beholder, but through the heart and soul comes real beauty." Jason Riessen says the "sparkle in her eyes" made quite an impres- sion when he first met Brown, who has a "genuine spirit and a true love for the open road." Brown is involved with Trucker Buddy and Women in Trucking, and she hauls produce from North Carolina to California and back. She was in the top 10 of Overdrive's Most Beautiful last year. Shanae Burshem Hometown: Bay City, Wis. Occupation: Company driver, Eckblad Trucking Inc. Years trucking: Three Hauls: Grain "I may not have the biggest truck or the longest trailer, but I can haul grain with the best of those boys. I'm not afraid to get my manicured hands dirty while shoveling out a grain bin." Burshem says she loves learning how to run farm equipment and hearing about the old days of farming. While she admits her work isn't always easy, she feels pride after making it through a challenging day. Trucking has brought her out of her shell, and she has "developed self-con- fidence and made some great friends along the way." Cheryl Lannigan Hometown: Savannah, Ga. Occupation: Owner-operator leased to Fast Freight Systems Years trucking: Eight Hauls: Containers in and out of ports "I consider myself the most beau- tiful trucker because I display Christ-like character. I'm friendly, courteous, polite, considerate and always help others with ease." Lannigan calls her 1998 Freight- liner FLD "Purple Passion." She hauls containers in and out of the ports in Savannah, Ga., and also other parts of Georgia, the Carolinas and Florida. "I will go the extra mile to get my job done, and having a great passion for truck- ing is something I'm proud of."
