18 COMMERCIAL & SYSTEMS INTEGRATORS www.securitysystemsnews.com SEPTEMBER 2011 SECURITY SYSTEMS NEWS COMMERICAL & SYSTEMS INTEGRATORS Securitronics at LPGA event By Martha Entwistle ROCHESTER, N.Y.—Organizers of the Wegman's LPGA Champion- ship decided to augment their security operations with electronic security this year for the first time in the history of the 35-year- old event. "We saw a real opportunity to use technology, which would mean [better security and, at the same time,] fewer paid security people, and more money for charity," said Linda Hampton, Wegman's LPGA tournament director. Wegman's is the title sponsor of this annual event, which took place at the Locust Valley Coun- try Club in June, and raises money for United Way's Graduation is the Goal. The event always includes paid and volunteer security per- sonnel and assistance from the local sheriff's department, but had never included video surveillance. Wegman's brought in the Securitronics Company to secure the event. Owned since 1997 by Jeff Heath and Terry Rivet, Secu- ritronics is an 18-person systems integrator with offices here and in Syracuse and a remote location in Buffalo. To host the tourna- ment, a temporary village of sorts was built at the hundred-acre golf course. This included a large expo tent, which more than 100,000 people filtered through during the course of the event. Stanley to buy resi company for $61m Purchase expected to close in September By Martha Entwistle EDMONTON, Alberta—In a deal that will give Stanley CSS a major residential security foot- print in Canada, Stanley Can- ada Corporation, a subsidiary of Stanley Black & Decker, Inc. has entered into an agreement to acquire Microtec Security Systems, headquartered here, for $61.6 million ($59.7 mil- lion Canadian). The deal includes close to 80,000 accounts, two UL- Canada listed central stations, five offices, 200 employees and many dealers, said Fred Fong, CEO and president of First National AlarmCap Income Fund, owner of Microtec. Stanley Black & Decker declined comment on the deal, which was expected to close in September. said. "In Quebec, we have a mix of internal sales and a dealer model. Outside of Quebec, we use the dealer model only." The deal is unanimously supported by the trustees of the fund. Fong said he doesn't anticipate any roadblocks with the approval process. A full-service super-regional, Per Mar has 35,000 cus- tomers, 65 percent of which are commercial. Per Mar began offering hosted video storage about a year ago. "We're hosting video storage from IP cameras in the place of putting a DVR at the customer site ... using Pivot3 equipment," Tolliver said. He decided to offer this service after a customer inquired about storing video from multiple locations and for a long duration. Today, Per Mar is hosting video storage for several customers and "hundreds of cameras." It is also offering the service to other dealers. Per "We can offer the service to a broad spectrum of [customers and dealers]. It's gaining traction." – Brad Tolliver, Per Mar Security Mar has a UL-listed central station and provides third-party monitoring services for other dealers. "We can offer the service to a broad spectrum of [custom- ers and dealers]. It's gaining traction," he said. Hosted video storage makes the most sense for one-to- eight camera applications, he said. "The benefit [for the customer] is the lower upfront installation cost because you don't have the initial fee for the DVR, [and] there's no [maintenance cost or] threat of the DVR being stolen, or damaged," Tolliver said. The end user has remote connectiv- ity to the video, and the video is all backed up, he added. Providing hosted video storage is not something every security company is well suited to provide. Per Mar had the infrastructure in place to make this investment. "The key is having the pipeline into the facility that can handle the bandwidth," he said. Getting the service set up "involved a lot of engineering and IT support, but fortunately we have a very strong IT department that could configure the head end for us." It also involved a "sizeable upfront investment to set up servers, and redundancy," Tolliver said. SSN Diebold saves with facility NORTH CANTON, Ohio—On June 30, 2011, Diebold, Inc. entered into a $500 million credit facility agreement with cer- tain credit relationship banks. This facility replaces a previous facil- ity of approximately the same amount which was scheduled to expire in October 2012. The renewal improves existing cov- enants and includes an all-in reduction in borrowing cost of 150 basis points, which represents an annual savings of approximately $5 million at current debt levels. The unsecured credit facili- ty is for a term of five years and expires in June 2016. "We are pleased to renew this credit facility agreement, and we believe this exemplifies the commitment and strong relationships we have with our creditors and the confidence they have in Diebold," said Bradley C. Richardson, executive vice president and chief financial officer, Diebold, in a prepared statement. Lockheed gets TSA order ROCKVILLE, Md.—Lockheed Martin has been awarded two regional task orders totalling $72 million to help TSA integrate and deploy new passenger screening and security equipment at airports across the east and central United States. Under these orders, Lockheed Martin will assist TSA in deploying passen- ger screening technologies including Advanced Imaging Technology equip- ment and software upgrades. The work will involve a complex integration of electrical systems, wireless technolo- gies and existing airport infrastructure.
