WINERIES UNLIMITED 36 th year Virginia is for Wine Lovers! 2012Preview By David Falchek The East's largest and longest-running trade show returns to Virginia March 27-29 arking its 36th year, the Wineries Unlimited Trade Show & Conference, host- ed by Vineyard & Winery Man- agement, again brings leading professionals, top academics and cutting-edge technology to the eastern wine and grape industry. The event will be held March 27-29 in Rich- mond, Va., at the state's largest meeting facility, the Greater Rich- mond Conven- tion Center. The program will offer viticulture, enol- ogy and marketing sessions, along with an extensive trade show. Two days of viticulture and enology sessions will revolve around the theme "Micro- biology from Vine- yard to Bottle." Dr. Keith Striegler, of Flint Ridge Winegrowing Services in Arkansas, and Dr. Bruce Zoeck- lein of Virginia Tech, will moderate the sessions featuring international- ly known guests such as professors Pascal Durand of the University of Burgundy and Ken Fugelsang of the California State University, Fresno. Attendees have two days to peruse the East's largest wine 76 industry trade show, which will offer wineries and would-be vint- ners everything they need to start or grow their winery and vineyard operations. 36 th year Exhibitors show their generosity to the industry by donating goods and services to the Silent Auction benefiting the American Society of Enology and Viti- culture – Eastern Section Scholar- ship Fund. 36 th year Virginia is for Wine Lovers! BEST OF THE EAST, TASTE OF VIRGINIA Wineries Alyssa Rapp of Bottle Notes will deliver the keynote address at the Best of the East Gala. Unlimited gets into a celebratory mood Wednesday, March 28, with the Best of the East Gala. Emcee Jim Trezise of the New York Wine & Grape Founda- tion and the Inter- national Riesling Foundation will guide attendees through an agenda that includes a tasting of gold medal-winning wines from the International East- ern Wine Competition followed by a "Taste of Virginia" dinner of local foods paired with Virginia wines. Founder and chief executive of pioneering wine social media site Bottlenotes.com, Alyssa Rapp, will VINEYARD & WINERY MANAGEMENT MAR - APR 2012 Virginia is for Wine Lovers! deliver the Gala's keynote address, discussing the trends in digital and social media and how they can be employed by wineries to engage customers. Originally conceived as an e-commerce site, Bottlenotes has evolved into an online community and digital media developer offering mobile applications that allow users to rate, remember and make notes on wines they tried while sharing them with other users.
