ATTRACTIONS g Milwaukee Art Museum collection galleries reopen Nov. 24 The Milwaukee Art Museum reopens its collection galleries to the public Nov. 24, following a massive 14-month, $34-million renovation and reinstallation of its gallery space. The project has created an intuitive and welcoming visitor experience that showcases the museum's world-class collection and doubles the space for feature exhibitions. The project also included crucial infrastructure repairs. The renovation adds 25,000 square feet of exhibition space, bringing the museum's total to 156,000 square feet. The museum can now install 2,500 works of art, almost 1,000 more than have been on view at one time, from its collection of 30,000. On the museum's east side, a new entrance and café along the Lake Michigan waterfront connect the museum to the lakefront pedestrian path. Glass walls offer panoramic views of both the lake and the museum's Santiago Calatrava–designed Quadracci Pavilion. A dramatically different exhibition space features bright, flowing galleries. Some areas are double in size. Others are new, such as those dedicated to photography, media arts and design. Innovative displays combine visitor favorites with new acquisitions and rarely seen collection objects. Two new spaces for families offer unique interactive experiences. Other visitor amenities include improved way-finding, rewritten gallery labels, and restrooms on every level. For more information, including schedules for the reopening, visit mam.org or phone (414) 224-3200.
