KEY GOLF Heroes For Kids pro-am, chance to see and meet pros in relaxed setting Milwaukee making its way back to annual PGA tour event By JERRY SLASKE KEY Milwaukee Golf Editor THANKS IN LARGE PART to the efforts of the Wisconsin PGA, headed by Joe Stadler, the Milwaukee area is slowly making its way back to being an annual showcase for PGA tour golf after losing the US Bank Championship several years ago. The 2nd annual Heroes For Kids pro-am event – July 29 and 30 at The Legend at Brandybrook – will feature Wisconsin PGA pros like Steve Stricker, Mark Wilson, Jerry Kelly, Skip Kendall, and J.P. Hayes and a host of other PGA players including Tommy "Two Gloves" Gainey, Woody "Aquaman" Austin, Ken Duke, John Rollins, Joe Ogilvie; Dicky Pride, Steve Flesch, Frank Lickliter III, Tom Pernice, and Michael Bradley. Also scheduled to appear on Monday, July 30, is CBS and Golf Channel announcer David Feherty. While he won't be playing, he will be roaming the course kibitzing with the crowd and offering his unique brand of witty commentary. Celebrities attending will include Heisman Trophy winner and former Wisconsin Badgers running back Ron Dayne, former Milwaukee Bucks star Junior Bridgeman, former Green Bay Packers tight end Mark Chmura, former Milwaukee Brewers players Robin Yount, Bill Schroeder and Craig Counsell; Milwaukee Brewers Manager Ron Roenicke, and New York Knicks guard and former Marquette University standout Steve Novak. The event schedule is: Sunday, July 29, 12:30 shot- gun start for celebrities and amateurs; Monday, July 30, 9:00 shotgun start for pros and amateurs. "Heroes For Kids is a great chance for golf fans to watch and meet some of the game's most recogniz- able players – and a number of celebrities from other sports – in a very relaxed setting," says Stadler, Wisconsin PGA's executive director. Tickets can be purchased for $20 each by calling the Wisconsin PGA at 414-443-3570 or going to www.heroes-for-kids.com. Children 15 years-of-age 42 and under accompanied by an adult will be free, as will anyone with a military ID. For directions to The Legend at Brandybrook, go to www.thelegend- clubs.com and click on "Contact Us" or call 262-968- 9717. The course is an easy 30 miles west of down- town Milwaukee. Stadler says the vision for the event is to grow it every year and eventually put it in the same league as the Franklin Templeton "Shark" Shootout (www.franklintempletonshootout.com) or the CVS Caremark Charity Classic (www.cvscharityclassic.com). Heroes For Kids benefits The First Tee Milwaukee County, Folds of Honor Foundation, Wounded Warrior Project, Birdies for the Brave, and Veteran Shield of Wisconsin. Last year, $220,000 was raised; the goal is $300,000 this year.
