George's business Cherry Corner Agency, Inc. got its name when, as an independent agent, he was sitting with the president of a company he sold for. They were going over his numerous sales when he said to George we need a name for you, what is your business? And George, who looked out the window, said, "Well, the office is on Cherry Street and it is on the corner, so we will call it 'Cherry Corner'!" George liked it better than George Howard Agency – "It's different" said George of Cherry Corner, "People remember it!" Today they are in a great new location – not on Cherry Street, but the name is so well recognized it didn't need to be. They have been at their new location for three years. Cherry Corner Agency, Inc. at 1908 E. 7th in Atlantic, IA 50022. At their largest George had 400 agents with him. George's wife, Sharon, works with him at Cherry Corner as comptroller. They have four children together – three of whom are in the insurance industry and one is a nurse. They are all grown up now, and have given them six grandchildren. George enjoys working with NCSF because, like the Farm Bureau, you are working with members. HOBBIES AND INTERESTS George, now 80, still works 40-50 hours a week but he also enjoys getting away with the family whenever he can! George's hobbies are snowmobiling, boating, and motorcycles. A Harley man at heart, today George and Sharon drive Can-Am Spyders, a 3-wheel motorcycle built for touring. George also just bought a 1955 Ford Fairlane Sunliner Convertible, the same car he drove at 18! From a long weekend to a 10-day trip, the Howards enjoy the open road! George and Sharon are also active in the Gideons International, an association of Christian business and professional men and their wives dedicated to telling people about Jesus through sharing personally and by providing Bibles and New Testaments.
