There is also cancellation and restitu- tion, which is where the non-breaching party may cancel the contract and sue for restitution if the non-breaching party has given a benefit to the breaching party. An example is if I contract with you to sell you my car and you take the car and drive it for a month but do not pay me. I can cancel the contract and sue for the value of the use of the car for a month, which would put me back into the same position as before you took the car. Contracts are legally enforceable, so you should make sure you know what you are signing before you put your name on a contract. Think long and hard before you breach a contract, not only because of the legal issues and costs but the cost to your reputation. Long gone are the days of the handshake.
