NEW PRODUCTS Briggs & Stratton unveils year, 2 new engines from Briggs & Stratton Corporation will help homeowners clear their driveways and walkways of unwanted snow — even in temperatures as low as -20 degrees Fahrenheit. The new 750 Series and 950 Series engines for snow blowers deliver the power, performance and easy, dependable starting that homeowners demand in harsh winter months. new snow blower engines When the winter storms arrive later this Mitsubishi Heavy Industries announces production schedule for new Tier 4 diesel engines Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) announced Sept. 4 its production schedule for 3 new small diesel engines in response to approaching Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Tier 4 regulations. The new D03CJ, D04CJ and D04EG models provide regulation-compliant solutions in the 19-kW (25-hp.) to 74-kW (99-hp.) output range. The Tier 4-compliant D03CJ and D04CJ will begin production in 2013, whereas the Tier 4 interim D04EG is currently available, and the Tier 4 final version will be available in 2015. Series and 950 Series engines are built with a freeze-resistant recoil starter and a Magnetron electronic ignition to deliver quick, reliable starts time after time. Four out of five consumers who bought a snow blower in 2011 felt that it is "extremely important" to have a snow blower that's easy to start, according to PowerPulse, an annual consumer survey on outdoor power equipment. The new Briggs & Stratton 750 "The new 750 Series and 950 Series snow engines have the necessary power to cut through wet, heavy snow," said J.P. Benjamins, product marketing manager for Briggs & Stratton. "We wanted to make snow clearing an easier task for consumers. Briggs & Stratton has built a really durable engine with great convenience features such as a mitt-grip handle for easier starting and an extra-large fuel tank for more running time. These engines will help deliver on that promise." The 750 Series and 950 Series engines deliver 7.5 ft. lbs. and 9.5 ft. lbs. of gross torque power, respectively — more than enough to clear a snow-filled driveway or sidewalk. Briggs & Stratton Corp. Both engines feature an optimized common rail system with a diesel particulate filter (DPF) and diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) for Tier 4 compliance. Common MHI goals when developing new engines are to achieve a more compact design without sacrificing power, while also lowering fuel consumption. Appropriately, compared to the previous Tier 3-compliant models being replaced, the D03CJ and D04CJ offer a smaller displacement, while output has been increased. Fuel efficiency is also 16- percent better than the previous engines. The new Tier 4 interim, 4-cylinder D04EG (3.331 L) delivers a maximum output of 74 kW (99 hp.) and a maximum torque of 375 Nm at 1,600 rpm, with a power density of 0.22 kW/L. The engine utilizes a common rail system, including an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system and a DPF and DOC for Tier 4 interim compliance. Compared with the Tier 3 engine it replaces, the D04EG offers 12-percent improved fuel economy. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. Featuring a 3-cylinder design, the D03CJ (1.655 L) produces a maximum output of 41 kW (55 hp.) and a maximum torque of 165 Nm at 1,800 rpm. The 4-cylinder equivalent of this engine, the D04CJ (2.207 L), produces a maximum output of 55 kW (74 hp.) and a maximum torque of 230 Nm at 1,800 rpm. The power densities of the D03CJ and D04CJ are 0.24- and 0.27-kW/L, respectively. 32 OUTDOOR POWER EQUIPMENT www.outdoorpowerequipment.com
