CUSTOM RIGS READER RIGS Hauling Down Under Daniel Franklin runs between 2,800 and 3,250 miles a week outside of Sydney, Australia, in this 1996 Western Star 4964, hauling mostly bulk food starch, timber, car tires and food products. The truck is powered by a 525-hp Cummins N14 and an Eaton 18-speed. It is almost the same as it was new, with a King Bars bullbar on the front and Australian-spec raised air breathers with chrome Donaldson intakes. 'Ol' Blackie' Carl Hubbard's "Ol' Black ie" is a 1996 Western Star 4964F Heritage garaged at Heritage Equipment, his Western Star dealership in Beckley, West Virginia. The truck is powered by a Detroit 60 Series, an Eaton Fuller 13-speed and 3:91 rears and features a 66-inch sleeper and a 260-inch wheelbase. The truck was a total loss in 2005, but Hubbard rebuilt it from the ground up over a seven-month period to be a heavy hauler used to transport the Western Star 6900XD pictured. All of the pol- ished aluminum work, such as the full fenders, headache rack and more, was installed by ALFAB of Smithville, West Virginia. The chrome came from Western Star and the Iowa 80 Chrome Shop.
