Cedarburg offers perfect setting for holiday cheer CEDARBURG, located 20 minutes north of Milwaukee, is home to more than 100 architecturally significant limestone buildings, churches and Victorian structures. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Cedarburg's downtown becomes a Currier & Ives- like setting during the holidays. A life-size Santa's Workshop graces the main street, with regular visits by Santa, Mrs. Claus and busy elves. "A Cedarburg Christmas – Everyone's Home for the Holidays" encompasses the many Christmas events held until New Year's Eve, organized by Cedarburg businesses, non-profits and charitable groups. The last weekend in November/first days of December draws crowds with art shows and craft sales at various locations, all linked by a special trol- ley. And Festive Friday Eves at Cedar Creek Settlement continue until Christmas with specially themed nights. Entertainment at various venues includes The Lettermen Dec. 1, Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra Christmas Concert Dec. 7, George Winston Dec. 20, River Cities Jazz Band Dec. 14 and McMann & Tate's rollicking Santa's Liquid Helper Dec. 7-8. The restored Rivoli Theatre shows Miracle on 34th Street Dec. 8. Holiday exhibits include the Washington House Inn's Antique Tree Exhibit, the Stagecoach Inn's Antique Santa Display and the General Store Museum's 19th Century Christmas. The Historic Kuhefuss House Museum is open Nov. 30, Dec. 1, 8, 14, & 15. Families thrill to a taste of yesteryear with horse-drawn sleigh rides through a wooded setting (reservations, 262-825-7500). This is just a sampling of what is planned for this gala time of year. Many holiday events are free (or charge a nominal fee) and are open to the public.
