When December brings its snow and ice to Milwaukee County, time itself seems to freeze, reminding us not only of our childhood winters, but also of the winters Milwaukee saw long ago. Milwaukee's artistic community welcomes you to enjoy holiday performances, including the Milwaukee Rep's 37th staging of A Christmas Carol and Milwaukee Ballet's performance of The Nutcracker. The historic Pabst Mansion is beautifully decked with holiday decorations, while the Milwaukee Public Museum strings lights throughout its buildings, includ- ing a fully-lit blue whale. The Milwaukee Holiday Lights Festival brings stunning light and color downtown and a cozy atmosphere to the various shopping districts. Of course, Milwaukee County also offers more modern options for a December evening, including remarkable nightlife, dining, and concert options for New Year's Eve. No matter what you choose to do in Milwaukee County, I hope you enjoy your time with us. Sincerely, Chris Abele Milwaukee enjoyed an unusually warm winter last year, pleasing all but the hardiest residents. No matter what the weather, people in this town get out and enjoy a wide variety of entertain- ment and activities. We are particularly proud of the performing arts in Milwaukee. Our symphony, ballet, and professional theatre are top notch. Every week, throughout the win- ter, our stages come alive with wonderful presenta- tions. Venues for those performances are remarkable, too. Downtown's historic Pabst Theater, the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts, and the Milwaukee Theatre all have rich traditions. We are a community that values the arts, and we maintain notable sites for music, drama and dance. We also enjoy athletic competition. NBA basketball, indoor soccer, and college basketball keep our sports arenas busy. Enthusiastic fans keep downtown hop- ping. People who live in Milwaukee do not stay home in the winter, and visitors are encouraged to join the fun. Sincerely, Tom Barrett, Mayor Milwaukee County Executive
