Angie is a member of the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women of the Rockford Diocese. Their big project is conducting nominations for "Woman of the Year". Angie worked on the banquet by taking reservations, making table arrangements, and served on the committee to select and taste the menu. This event draws 600 to 700 guests from the 14 dioceses of Rockford! This year 2013, Angie was a nominee for the "Woman of the Year" representing her parish. A Lenten Day of Reflection luncheon has been held for the past 6 years under Angie's direction. She added the students from St. James School to portray the 14 stations of the cross in a real-life format. The luncheon was attended by 150 people. Her parish creates a St. Joseph Altar every March in the parish center; many volunteers – including Angie – help set-up and bake weeks before the event! On the united Way she served as a loan chair, calling on companies for donations over a 10-year span. AbILITy TO MObILIZe geneRATIOns Angie's volunteerism spans over the past 35 years. She is presently working in her parish to attract Christian women from different Catholic churches in the Diocese to join the Altar and Rosary Society, especially more Hispanic women. For several years, Angie has served on the Vietnam Veterans Landing Zone Peace Memorial Committee as their fundraising chair and assisted with other program dedications. Angie volunteered at St. Anthony Church for the annual international living rosary in 2012. She co-chaired the event, soliciting Catholics with ethnic backgrounds to come say one Hail Mary in a foreign language. A local funeral home placed an ad in the newspaper asking the public to collect sweaters, hats, and gloves for veteran men and women in hospitals and nursing homes. Court 674 made this their "MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAY" event on November 12, 2012. Angie rallied to the cause and encouraged her Altar and Rosary members to get involved. Over 100 sweaters, hats, gloves, and scarfs were delivered for the veterans! Angie assisted McIntosh School as a reading tutor for 3rd grade students. She also assisted teachers in the Montessori school to present nutrition education to the students. Angie's life has been one of unselfish giving. She and her husband, John, have been married 55 years, have two daughters, Maria and Teresa and six awesome grandchildren. She lives by the following quote: "BLOOM WHERE GOD PLANTS YOu"… Congratulations Angie for being our 2013 Fraternalist of the Year! ANN WAGNER Court 901, Park Rapids-MN Fall 2013 — www.ncsf.com 7
