He was owner of 101-year-old Tholl Fence, Inc. of Sparks, Nevada, which he took over in 1950. Mr. Tholl was born in the family's Sparks home on June 26, 1922 to Paul Nicholas Alfred Tholl and Callie Mae Austin Tholl, Bud Tholl who founded Tholl Fence, Inc. in 1912. Mr. Tholl's obituary described his career thusly: "In 1950, Bud took over the family business, Tholl Fence. He was so very proud of Tholl Fence Company's distinguished 101 year history. "The company's roots, like so many business enterprises of the early 1900s, began in the hands of a recent immigrant to this country. Bud's father, with little more than ambition, a team of horses, and talent, began Tholl Fence by supplying local ranchers and farmers with fencing and other mercantile products. "The quality of installation, materials and professionalism so widely associated with Tholl Fence are not recent developments. They have their roots well established in time, when the quality of a product was not a convenience, but a necessity, and often times contracts were cemented by a handshake and a man's word. From monasteries to brothels, from day care centers to prisons, from ballparks to missile sites, Bud oversaw much of what is talked about, and some of what isn't." After graduating from Sparks High School in 1940, he studied engineering at the University of Nevada, Reno. World War II interrupted his education, as he joined the Army Corps of Engineers, and did a tour of Europe from 1943 to 1946. Mr. Tholl returned to northern Nevada in 1946 and married his wife of 51 years, June, who died in 1998. He and June had four children: Iris, Matthew, Mark and Pat, the latter two preceding him in death, as well as his sisters, Emily and Mary, and brothers, Wallace and Maximillian. In 2000, he met Mimi at Rotary Club of Sparks, and they were married in 2005. Mr. Tholl is survived by his wife, Mimi, daughter Iris Campbell (Jay), son Matt Tholl (Dona), eight grandchildren, numerous great-grandchil- dren and great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a member of the Reno Elks for 52 years, a charter member of the Sparks Rotary Club since 1948, and was a Paul Harris Society Major Donor recipient. He was the longest tenured board member of the Nevada Humane Society, joining the board in 1963, and serving until his death. He was recently honored by the Nevada Humane Society as the first recipient of the Distinguished Service Award. He was also a member of The Prospectors' Club as well as the Hidden Valley Country Club.
