Jim Paterson, president and a founding member of the National Drowning Prevention Alliance (NDPA), reminds everyone that the 2014 NDPA Educational Conference is coming up March 19–March 21, 2014. The site is the Wyndham Orlando Resort in Orlando, Florida. (Paterson is vice-president of sales and marketing for D&D Technologies, a founding partner of NDPA.) The conference will feature 33 speakers who will Jim Paterson present 28 informative breakout sessions. Dr. Peter Antevy of Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital and Chuck Wielgus, executive director of USA Swimming® and CEO of the USA Swimming Foundation®, will be keynote speakers. NDPA continues to reach out and engage fellow non-profit drowning prevention and water safety experts, organizations, and educators, ranging from family foundations to physicians, scientific researchers, college professors, swim instructors, lifeguards and water safety instructors all over the world, Paterson noted. "This year's theme reflects the NDPA's purpose, practicing social responsibility, as well as the need to transform drowning prevention education and awareness," Paterson stated. "For the past 12 years, the NDPA has served the nation as a trusted organization, and we continue to expand our outreach around the world. Our mission is to prevent drowning and aquatic injuries by educating, leading, engaging, and supporting the public, our members, chapters, and partners," he said. "Efforts to expand drowning prevention and water safety education are expanding. Interconnectivity via an expanded use of technology, blended learning, new techniques in education for adapted aquatics, and other initiatives are accelerating changes to the way the public perceives drowning prevention and water safety. A new method of information dissemination is emerging and it encompasses an extensive use of social media and technology to advance the NDPA's cause and forces us to be forward thinking."
