FENCETECH'12 Preview Some facts about the Miami Beach Convention Center Location: The Miami Beach Con- vention Center spans four city blocks in the heart of Miami Beach – minutes from Miami International Airport and local hotels – adjacent to the cool Art Deco and South Beach districts – and a short walk to one of America's most spectacular beaches. Designed and constructed in Miami Beach's signa- ture Art Deco motif, this distinctive fa- cility combines plush comfort with convenience and efficiency. Utilities: Floor ports in the exhibi- tion halls are located on 30-foot cen- ters providing connections for electricity, drainage and phone. Com- pressed air and water are located on specific columns. Exhibit Booth Setup: Florida is a right-to-work state; exhibitors' full- time personnel are allowed to install and dismantle within the confines of their booth. Freight Docks: 38 truck bays are evenly distributed at either end of the complex – a critical factor in coordi- nating an efficient and timely move-in and move-out. Services: Complete in-house audio/visual and telecommunication services are available throughout the Miami Beach Convention Center. Care has been taken to fully equip the facil- ity with functional amenities for the handicapped for total accessibility. Shuttling and Parking: An 880- space parking facility is adjacent to the Miami Beach Convention Center, pro- viding easy access and marshalling for shuttling. Additional 2,000-space parking facilities are one block away. Interesting! Green Miami As the only metropolitan area in the United States that borders two na- tional parks – Biscayne National Park to the east and Everglades National Park to the west – Greater Miami and the Beaches is positioned at the fore- front of the environmental movement. Here are some of the green initia- tives that Miami's tourism community and local governments have in place. • Miami-Dade's Green Lodging and Restaurant Program focusing on water conservation. • Florida Green Lodging Initiative. Encourages sustainability practices by hotels and restaurants including waste reduction, re-use and recycling, and water conservation. • Miami Climate Action Plan, whose goal is to reduce greenhouse emissions. Business Center: Full services available, offering photocopying, fac- simile, shipping services, secretarial support, computer time rental and of- fice supplies. Concierge Desk: Uniformed hosts provide information on area attractions and restaurant reservations – at no cost. Access: Four drive-in ramps with 35-foot freight doors allow access and egress at grade level. Skywalk: The climate-controlled Skywalk at the Miami Beach Conven- tion Center spans the facility from east to west, providing an unrestricted view of the exhibition space and offering convenient access to the center of the exhibition floor.
