Smith's "spotless safety re- cord during his 35-year career is a true testament to his atten- tion to detail and dedication to safety," said Big G Express President Randy Vernon. "One way I maintain my professionalism is by keeping a positive outlook on my work, focusing on the good and not the bad," Smith said. "I treat my customers with respect and kindness, regardless of the circumstances." Smith, previously a Ten- nessee Road Team captain, is serving as an America's Road Team captain. He was Tennessee's Driver of the Year in 2013. "When I am driving, I think about each vehicle as if my wife or daughters were in it," he said. "I am constantly anticipating what the other drivers may do that could present a safety hazard." Smith also is involved in his com- munity. He and his family visit local assisted living facilities and nursing homes because many of the residents have no family in the area. He's also an active church mem- ber and often speaks to community groups about his job and the trucking industry. Smith says his plans for the prize money is to save most of it for now and use part of it for "a really great vacation next year with my family, maybe go to Europe."
