Spring 2016 — www.ncsf.com 19 AGeNt SPOtliGht iNtrODuCiNG robert ompson SUNNY CALIFORNIA! Robert "Bob" Thompson lives in sunny southern California with his wife Jerry Elaine Thompson. Together they have a large loving family; Bob has five daughters, three grandkids, and one great- granddaughter and Jerry has two daughters, four grandkids, plus two great-grandkids! While Bob and Jerry are preparing for a move to Colorado, Bob took a few moments by phone to share his story with NCSF readers. Bob has been in the insurance business since the summer of 1976. Bob went to college for a Bachelor of Arts. He started out his career in mortgage insurance sales with Family Life. Bob worked in the senior market for Medicare Insurance Sales and has been a life specialist for both Allstate and AAA/Auto Club. Bob has also been a benefits specialist for Federal Employees and Educators (403-B, TSA) sales. TO BE A GOOD MAN. ... And what did Bob want to be when he grew up? "That's a profound question!" said Bob, "I think I wanted to do what is right and be a good man, both in business and in my relationships." Does Bob see himself as a sales person? No! Bob is a problem solver. "I would rather be an order taker than a sales person," Bob said with a smile in his voice. But what does that mean to Bob? ... "You must have good listening skills," he says. "The best way to sell is to ask simple questions," said Bob, "show them what is available, help with the decision and make sure they understand what they have chosen ... I am just the instrument. I give a solution." What initially drew Bob to the National Catholic Society of Foresters was NCSF's unique product line, and that, as a Catholic company, "the credibility and trust factor is so high." What is Bob's key to success as an insurance producer? "Good products and marketing programs," said Bob. "Activity is the key to success. Staying focused on a particular problem to solve and particular market segment. Oh, and to stick with it and have a ton of empathy, integrity, and knowledge about your business." WhEN hE DOESN'T hAvE hIS AGENT hAT ON? When Bob does not have his agent hat on, he'll have on his LA Dodgers hat! "I like to stay active. Take walks, go to the gym regularly, involve myself in church, and spend as much time as I can with my sweetheart." ONE OF BOB'S FAvORITE QUOTES: "Success is a lousy teacher" Bill Gates Bob has insurance licenses in Idaho and Colorado but primarily sells in California. To contact Bob call (909) 268-1474.
