Unmatched Quality Premium Selection Detailed Customization Dependable Service corner lot is the front of the lot, no matter which street the house faces. The city also defines a side yard as that portion of the lot that is located on each side of your house. It is dis- tinct from the front yard, the back yard, the side street or the rear street. • The maximum allowable height for a fence in a front yard is 4 feet. However, if the fence is constructed with an ornamental material, such as wrought iron with or without masonry or wood piers, a 6 foot high fence is al- lowed provided the fence is at least 50 percent open. This is also true for side street and rear street fences. • The maximum height allowed for a solid fence in the side yard is 4 feet. A 6-foot fence is allowed if the upper 2 feet is at least 50 percent open construction, such as lattice or chain link. A side yard fence placed at least 10 feet inside the lot line can be a solid fence up to 6 feet high. • The maximum allowable height for any fence in the rear yard is 6 feet. • Opaque, solid or privacy fences built at the intersection of a street and a driveway, alley or another street are limited to a height of 3 feet to keep the "vision setback triangle" from being obstructed. The vision setback is formed by connecting two points, a set distance from the intersection, to form a trian- gle. The two points are measured an equal distance away from the point of intersection, along the drive, walk or curb. The specific distance (10 feet-25 feet) depends on your zoning district. Fences, bushes, hedges, signs, trees or other obstructions taller than 3 feet are prohibited within this triangle. New York / Long Island Fence Association honors memory of John Del Mastro with golf tournament The NY/LI Fence Association is hosting its first annual golf outing, the John A. Del Mastro Memorial Golf Outing, on September 27, 2012 at the Mill Pond Golf course in Medford, New York. According to chapter president Ken Piil of Piil Fence Co., "John was a long-time friend and member of the chap- ter. He worked many years in the fence industry, first as an installer, then owner, then as general manager at Eastern Wholesale Fence. "John saw the need for a strong local chapter and was usually the first to offer help and support. He stayed out of the picture, but was there when needed. My hope is to get everyone in- volved in this outing. We need your support to make this a great success," said Piil. John Del Mastro Proceeds will help start a scholar- ship in Del Mastro's name and support the NY/LI Fence Association. Added Piil, "You can show your support by joining us for a great day of golf or for the dinner, becoming a sponsor, or making a monetary dona- tion to this important day, to help us keep John's memory alive." Several sponsorship opportunities are available. The agenda is as follows: • Noon - Registration / lunch & driving range • 1 p.m. - Shotgun start • 6 p.m. - Cocktail hour • 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. - Dinner/raffle Registration forms can be down- loaded from the chapter web site, www.nylifence.com.
