NEWS AND DEALS COMPILED BY iG EDITORS GLENCOE'S GLEN FOREST UNDERGOING RENOVATION GROUP CHECKS OUT THE CHANGES A TOUR The Glencoe's Glen Forest track is in the midst of a large renovation that will see a great track getting even better. Renos include addressing drainage, removing trees to open sightlines and changing bunker location... all done to give Glen Forest the look and challenge it had when Robert TrentJones Jr. first looked at the site in the 1980s. On what will be a 7,527-yard layout, if the weather co-operates, the plan is for a soft opening in September. In an interview with the Calgary Sun, Neil Rooney, the chief operating officer at Glencoe said, "We have a series of tours that we're doing and every person I've brought out there is just ecstatic, just thrilled with what they're seeing. They can't wait to get the first tee open so they can get out there and start playing it... "Some of the elite players, as they stand on the tee-box, they start talking about how they're going to play the hole. And some of the mid- and high-handicap players are saying, 'Well, I'm not standing here. I'm walking forward to see what it looks like from my tee-box.' We realize we have a great golf course," Rooney said. "We wanted to make it better." glencoe.org • 877-242-4019 (Submitted By Natasha Sawatsky, Membership Marketing & Sales Director) HIGHWOOD G&CC HAS CELEBRATION OPTIONS Says Director of Golf Chad Thomlinson, "Get together and celebrate with your team, family or friends this fall at the Highwood G&CC. The Rosebud River topped its banks for the first time in about 40 years. Says Lois Klassen, "When this happened, we lost our bridge to the 3rd hole on our golf course. Because of the flood, we were without the 3rd hole for the entire 2011 season. With the completion of the new bridge over the winter, we were able to open up this year with all nine holes. While we were operating on 8 holes last season, we discovered that we had some incredibly loyal customers. Yes, we struggled financially, but with the customer base we had, we were able to survive, and this year are coming back stronger than ever. We have some great Fall specials to finish the season. Starting September 4, we are offering a Stay and Play Package. On weekdays, enjoy camping and unlimited golf for only $60 per couple. ($60 includes one night of camping and one day of unlimited golf for 2 people)." Visit their website at www.rosebudgolf.ca 79
