DIVERSIONS Female trucker outwits the law in new movie By Randy Grider Evan Rachel Wood A new trucking movie is in the works with director Michael Polish ("The Astronaut Farmer," "For Lovers Only") at the helm. According to Hollywood rumor blogs, actress Evan Rachel Wood has signed on to play the lead role, that of a female trucker named Rainbeaux. gear-grindin' female trucker is accused of a crime that she did not commit and must outrace the law, brother truckers, feds and bounty hunters in the Texas bubble gum, redneck chic summer of 1977." Wood is known for her gritty roles in television ("True Blood" and "Mildred Pierce") and indie films ("Pretty Persuasion" "Down in the Valley," "Running with Scissors"), as well as mainstream films ("The Wrestler," "Whatever Works" and "Ides of March"). Whether Wood can pull off a convincing performance as a trucker is yet to be seen. Then again, who has? (Even reality shows about trucking only hold so much reality). This is Hollywood, and the best we can hope for is to be entertained. Hammer down, Rainbeaux! The official synopsis: "An adorable Iowa 80 Kitchen customers will be part of a Travel Channel feature on truck stop diners. Iowa 80 eatery featured in TV series By Randy Grider Iowa 80 Kitchen will be among truck stop eateries featured in an upcoming episode of the Travel Channel's "Food Paradise" television series. The episode, "Truck Stop Paradise," is tentatively slated to air in the first quarter of 2013, said Caryn Davidson, a Travel Channel spokeswoman. Also scheduled for the episode, Davidson said, are R-Place Family Eatery in the TravelCenters of America in Morris, Ill., Berky's Restaurant inside the Lee Hi Travel Plaza in Lexington, Va., Johnson's TECH BUZZ and special deals for checking in. 3. It's a game/competition, too. You Foursquare is a free app and social networking site that allows you to keep record of places you've visited. Reasons to use Foursquare 1. This app records everywhere you've "checked in," and you can view a comprehensive map (or list) at Foursquare.com. It's pretty cool to see all the places you've been. 2. How to use Foursquare with your smartphone or tablet 1. Sign up using your email address or Facebook account. 2. Activate your device's GPS function. An Iowa 80 Truckstop press release said the film crew interviewed customers concerning their favorite dishes. "Drivers appreciate the home- cooked meals they can order from our menu. They also enjoy the buffet and the wide variety of salads we offer," said Bill Peel, Iowa 80 kitchen operator, in the release. "Our apple dumpling seems to be a big hit, too." The Peels have been running the Iowa 80 Kitchen restaurant since partnering with the Moon family, who owns and operates the truck stop, in 1964.
