On a warm, muggy Dallas morning in 1941, while drinking his coffee and listening to the sounds of German bombings on his Philco tabletop radio, W.C. Jamieson, owner of a company which serviced and repaired oil and gas burners, decided to put his business on hold and become part of the war effort. After serving his country in World War II, Jamieson returned to the States Founder started company after returning from WWII Jamieson Fence Supply marks 70th year in manufacturing and distribution and founded Jamieson Manufacturing Co. in 1943, joined by his son-in-law Clarence Lavender, a former Air Force mechanic. The firm manufactured heating and ventilating equipment, and performed custom sheet metal work. Eventually, contractors approached the company – which owned a crucible to melt metal – to make special fittings used in chain link fence construction. "Clarence's genius was that he recognized that was the way to take the company, and not to consider it as a sideline," said Jamieson's executive vice-president, Len Hoersten. "Everybody else at Jamieson looked at making those fittings as a nuisance.
