42 MAY 2015 | FUEL OIL NEWS | www.fueloilnews.com HVAC/ HYDRONICS SEPTEMBER The Volcano Burner Corp. of New York City announces the new Volcano burner with "Air Velocity Control Chamber." Close the back door and get outta town! American Standard announces a full line of "Arco Multifin Convector." Scully Signal Co. will sell you its "FasFill System" for $11.50, complete for the three different sizes with carrying case. Standard Steel Works of North Kansas City, Mo., will sell you a brand new 1200 gallon, two-compartment truck tank for $1159.19. OCTOBER Atwater Fuels of New Bedford, Mass., has calculated into their 10.7 cent retail price a half-cent for service. This is based on their current barge cost of 7.3 cents. Automatic Burner Corp. introduces the all new "ABC-51." This is the first burner to feature an overshot air design with a swing-away transformer. This is now, in 2015, the industry accepted standard. The industry talks about how to prevent the frequent problem with plugged nozzles. The solution to the problem is better filtration. Now that time I know I felt a bump, and why is it some of this stuff just doesn't sink in! B e l l & G o s s e t t introduces the "Airtrol System", Figure 5. General Electric introduces the LB15 and LB20 furnaces with their renowned low pressure burner. No comment, really! Ready for another bump in that space-time continuum? Hang on kiddies here comes a doozie! Hoffman introduces the "C-141 Hot Water Comfort Package." The package provides for outdoor, thermostatically controlled continuous circulation. I flew on a USAF C-141 once. Audel's announces its new "Oil Burner Guide," price, $1.00. I have one of those. NOVEMBER Winkler introduces the model "H-2, Econo-flame with Deflecto- air" burner. Don't ya just want to kill to get your hands on one of those? Look in the bone yard out back. Nothing else of any importance happened in November, 1947 except that I was born on November 11. Yup, right in the middle of the freaking Armistice Day parade. That's why I do love a parade! DECEMBER Charles H. Burkhardt writes an article called "A Steady Water Line Saves Oil." The article has to do with priming, foaming and controlling the impurities in today's new steam boilers. Gimme a break, will ya! BANG, Double Bang, hang on and good night momma. The final bump in the 1947 space-time continuum and we're on our way to the future. Whoa, but what's this? It's only 1948. What's so important about this year? Well you oilburner groupies, flameheads and com- bustion freakies 1948 is important because it's only in 1948 that pump-type smoke testers came along. Dwyer introduces their smoke tester in June, and Bacharach introduces the "True-Spot" in October. The True-Spot, Figure 6, sells for $14.40, dealer's net. Within a few months, Shell Oil at their Oil Combustion Lab in New Jersey, working with Bacharach, will develop among other things the Shell-Bacharach scale, Figure 6, and there is an immediate demand and call to adjust burners on smoke performance rather than the previous CO 2 -Temperature method. For you oil quality and filtration fans. In May of 1948 Commercial Filters announces the introduction of the FB-4 and FB-6 filters. I'm not gonna say it! WOOP, bang, woop, here we go again, the time machine's in gear again, look out 2015, here we come. Ohoh, it's not 2105 it's only 1967, and it's February 1967, but why did we land here. Let's look around. Wow, a lot of stuff did happen here. For starters I came into the biz on February 10, 1967, and on top of that most momentous of events, a few other things happened too: The Williamson Co. of Cincinnati introduces the "Five In One" System—the first oil-fired furnace with air conditioning, humidification, and electronic air cleaning all in one package. Honeywell introduces the R8182. Nuff said. Beacon-Morris introduces the Twin-Flo kickspace heater. Fireye introduces the UVM-2A. Tjernlund introduces the "Aire-Aid Duct Booster", Figure 7. Two current industry articles are, and are you ready for this? "How vulnerable is oilheating in terms of equipment age?" William H. Axtman writes "A Multi-Meter Can Be the Serviceman's Best Friend." Amen Mister Axtman, amen! That's it, I can't take any more of this ride! But, now you know why my friends always say that one of my favorite expressions is, "there's really nothing new out there." So, wind up your magic twanger and let's get back to 2015. TFG's outta here. See ya! *George Lanthier is the owner of Firedragon Academy, a Massachusetts Certified School teaching both gas and oil.
