FOCUS PSB Snow 20 • September 17, 2015 • Powersports Business www.PowersportsBusiness.com Exclusive CDK Global study offers insight into unit selling prices High-end snowmobiles, those with an MSRP of $13,000 or more, dominate the market share in Canada, according to exclusive data provided to Powersports Business from CDK Global Recreation. In Canada, the higher-priced snowmobiles have accounted for 44 percent of the country's market share from 2011-14. Sleds priced at $11,000-$13,000 come in a distant second at 30 percent of the Canadian market. In the U.S., however, the $13,000 and higher MSRP snowmobiles account for only 6 percent of the market, while sleds in the $9,000-$13,000 range make up 72 percent of the market. NON-CURRENT MODELS While non-current models do open new mar- kets with lowered pricing, their existence does compete with new models in dealer inventories, and there's some difference in the way non- currents have been handled in the U.S. and Canada. U.S. dealers over the past four years have drawn 48 percent of all unit sales from non-current inventories (those one or more model years old). The Canadian market has seen an even greater percent of non-current units sold Canadians big on higher priced sleds 82% 80% 79% 79% 78% 78% 77% 76% 76% 75% 74% 74% 73% 72% 72% 69% 18% 20% 21% 21% 22% 22% 23% 24% 24% 25% 26% 26% 27% 28% 28% 31% UT MT SD ID CO PA WA NY IL VT WI MN MI NH ME AK % of snowmobiles sold "in season" % of snowmobiles sold "out of season" LENGTH OF SNOWMOBILE SELLING SEASON; U.S. , YEARS 2011-14 PERCENT OF UNITS SOLD "IN SEASON" V.
