60 • OCTOBER 2015 • WORLD FENCE NEWS culture as the habits that bring their values to life. Culture is the vehicle to empower innovation and efficiency as well as engagement. Successful companies take their time to identify and nurture a culture that reduces friction in the workplace and speeds up performance. They search for the person who is the best fit, not just the first person to meet the minimum job requirements. And once they find him or her, they deliberately equip them with the tools and training to succeed and thrive within the company's culture. The result: employees become full contributors to the team faster and more effectively, ultimately helping to move the company forward. Everyone wants to go faster. The businesses that achieve fast are the ones willing to go slow to do the im- portant, essential work. Randy Pennington is an award-winning author, speaker, and leading authority on helping orga- nizations achieve pos- itive results in a world of accelerating change. The architect and contrac- tor each receive a specially-designed plaque and a cash award of $2,500 given to the designing architect and $1,000 to the installing contractor. The program is jointly funded by CLFMI and the Les Grube family. The award was established in 1984 during Grube's term as CLFMI president. He was instrumental in out- lining the award's qualifications and establishing connections with the ar- chitectural community to support the concept. The first award went to Pritzker Award-winning architect Frank Geh- ry for his design of the sign at San- ta Monica Place. Over the years the award has been given to projects as di- verse as the "living" façade of an air- CLFMI now accepting applications for the 2015 Les Grube Memorial Design Award The Chain Link Fence Manufac- turers Institute (CLFMI) announced that applications are now being ac- cepted for the Les Grube Memorial Design Award, which is named for CLFMI past president Les Grube. The award was created to high- light the versatility and functionality of chain link fencing products. CLFMI recognizes the designing architect and installing contractor of the project that is deemed to represent the most unique and practical way of incorporating chain link fencing port facility to the design of a "slam dancing" night club in Tijuana. The 2013 award was won by el dorado inc. (designer) and the James H. Drew Corporation (installer) for their work on the Broadway Overpass Project in Kansas City, Mo. Other winners include Arai/ Jackson Architects, Seattle, Wash; and Don M. Hisaka and Associates, Cambridge, Mass. Architects and contractors are encouraged to submit applications as soon as possible to be considered for the 2015 Award. For more information or to re- ceive an application form, contact Mark Levin at 301-596-2583 or via e-mail at info@chainlinkinfo.org. To qualify for the Les Grube Me- morial Design Award, the nominated project must employ an innovative use of chain link fence materials (fabric, framework, and/or gates) on a com- mercial or industrial project; be con- ceived by a professional architectural or engineering firm; and be installed by a professional fence contractor. A perfect example of the type of proj- ect which meets the goals and vision of the Les Grube Memorial Design Award is the so-called "Ghost House," a public sculpture constructed of chain link framework and fabric, locat- ed in Randall's Island Park in New York City. The Design Award was created to highlight the versatility and functional- ity of chain link fencing products, and the Ghost House certainly does that. The project was the winner of the 2014 Les Grube Memorial Design Award. (CLFMI photo)
