Driver Feature A er leaving the Army, Richard Benne wasn't sure what he wanted to do next. A rocky start with one driving company almost made him turn his back on trucking, but a er a short break he returned to the industry as a driver for Gordon Trucking. Although he's only been with GTI for less than two years, his work ethic has already made him a valuable member of the temperature control fleet. Benne is honored to be GTI's February Driver of the Month. Q: Where did you grow up, and how long have you been in the trucking industry? A: My dad was in the Navy, and then I was in the Army, so I grew up all over. But I've only been driving for two and a half years. Q: How did you get into trucking? A: When I got out of the Army, I decided to follow my two brothers into the truck- ing business, Eventually, I ended up at GTI and have been here ever since. Q: What equipment do you operate? A: A 2015 Freightliner Cascadia. Overall, the Freightliners are reliable and I've enjoyed driving them. Q: What do you like about driving a truck? A: I enjoy the traveling and getting to see different places. But you don't really get to visit anything, you just get to look at it and say, 'Yeah, maybe one day I can come back here.' So when you see those old people on the road with a motor home and pulling that whatever car, and you're cussing them because you're try- ing to get around them because they're driving so slow—those are probably all old truck drivers. Q: What do you like to listen to when you're in the truck? A: I have a mixture of different music on a flash drive. It has everything from Gangnam Style to techno to hard rock. It's got country and rap—there are all kinds of music on there.
