46 | Overdrive | May 2018 Custom Rigs T he first race of the Mini- mizer Bandit Big Rig Series' second season saw a familiar face in the series in the winner's circle for the first time. Allen Boles, driver of the No. 3 Pe- terbilt and vice president of 18-truck fleet Jupiter Enterprises, earned his first Bandit Series win March 24 at Mobile International Speedway in Alabama. While the small fleet owner piled up seven top-five finishes last season, he never got to victory lane. "It's about time," said Boles, who earned a $10,000 prize. The race started with a bang as racers Mark Noble and Darren Prof- fitt collided on the third lap, sending both trucks spinning up the track. Defending series champion Ricky "Rude" Proffitt couldn't stop fast enough and collided with his brother Darren. Boles, running in fourth at the time of the crash, avoided the chaos by driving through the grass. After the caution, Ricky Proffitt and Boles restarted in first and sec- ond, respectively, but Boles grabbed the lead. He led the next 18 laps before another caution flag flew when Craig Kruckeberg blew a tire. The restart brought the field back together, with Boles restarting in the lead and Tommy Boileau, a four- race winner last season, restarting in second. Boles kept his lead to the end, followed by Boileau in second, Ricky Proffitt in third, Noble in fourth and Tyler Kruckeberg in fifth. The Bandits were scheduled to race in Fairlawn, Virginia, April 21, and in Concord, North Carolina, May 5. Upcoming races are June 9 at Hawkeye Downs Speedway in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and June 23 at Lucas Oil Speedway in Indianapolis.
