The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Com- mission (CPSC) and Textron Specialized Vehicles, Inc., of Augusta, Georgia, are announcing the recall of about 1,100 Bad Boy off-road utility vehicles. As a result of the vehicles rolling over, a 14-year-old male passenger died in Toombs County, Georgia in 2014 and, in a separate rollover incident, an adult male operator suffered a serious leg injury. The vehicles lack seat belts, posing a risk of serious injury or death to the operator and passengers in the event of a vehicle accident. This recall involves Bad Boy XTO and Bone Collector XTO model off-road utility vehicles manufactured by Textron Special- ized Vehicles. The recalled four-wheeled vehicles are battery-powered and have a bench seat for a driver and one passenger and a two-passenger, rear-facing bench seat on the back. The vehicles were sold in camouflage, black, white, forest green, flame red, and patriot blue and the brand and model name are printed on the side and front panels. The recalled vehicles have serial numbers ranging from 8000020 through 8004934. The serial number is located on the steering column connected to the wheel. The recalled utility vehicles were sold at Bad Boy dealers nationwide from Novem- ber 2010 through June 2013 for between $13,200 and $14,200 and manufactured in the United States. POLARIS DONATES NEW ENGINES TO TECHNICIAN PROGRAM Students in the Outdoor Power Products Technician program at Wisconsin Indian- head Technical College (WITC) received two new Indian Scout motorcycles engines donated by Polaris, according to an article in the New Richmond (Wisconsin) News. WITC instructor Dave Brown com- mented in an interview that the engines will aid in classroom demonstrations and discus- sions: "I plan to partially disassemble one of the engines, allowing learners to see the inter- nal parts and how they work. These engines, along with other equipment, will be great for class use here at WITC, as well as dem- onstrating them to area high schools in their mechanics classes." The Outdoor Power Products Technician program is offered as a one-year, financial aid- eligible program, available only at the New Richmond WITC campus. ITP RACERS EARN THREE BITD PODIUMS ITP racer Mitch Guthrie Jr. kicked off the 2017 Best In The Desert (BITD) racing series by winning the UTV overall and UTV Pro Turbo class at the 2017 Parker 250 in Arizona. Branden Sims joined Guthrie on the box, finishing third in his No. 913 Polaris RZR dressed in ITP UltraCross R Spec tires. ITP racers notched four of the top five finishing times at the opening round, aka the UTV Winter Nationals, all coming UTV Pro Turbo class. "With last weekend's Parker 250 win, I was happy to be able to count on ITP UltraCross tires to guide me to the finish line with zero flats and a flawless race," said Guthrie Jr. "It's great to start the season with a win and to have it go to such a great, humble kid like Mitch Guthrie Jr.," said Rhett Turpin, head of ITP sales. "ITP UltraCross R Spec tires continue to dominate in the BITD series. To have four of the top five finishers says a lot about the UltraCross R Spec tire's design, durability and dependability for desert racing. It's also great proof for those recreational riders out there searching for a reliable and versatile tire for their side- by-side vehicle." BRP RECALLS SIDE-BY-SIDE VEHICLES DUE TO INJURY HAZARD BRP has recalled approximately 780 units when it was found that affected vehicles might unexpectedly roll away when in the "park" or "P" position, posing an injury haz- ard to users. This recall involves model year 2016 Can- Am Defender, Defender DPS, and Defender XT model side-by-side off-road vehicles. The vehicles were sold in various colors and have four tires, two seats and a cargo box on the back. "Can-Am" is printed on the side of the cargo box and the model name is printed on the side of the front of the vehicle beside the headlight. The model name and vehicle iden- tification number (VIN) are printed on a label under the glove box.
